Let’s imagine for a minute that this year you’re going to hire someone to do your taxes. (Yes, it’s that time of year again 🙁 ) So you go online and start a search for an accountant. You find two that you’re interested in and you fill out the contact form and tell them you’re interested in talking with them. Both email you back within the first 24 hours. However, one has an email address that says Bsmith@smithaccounting.com and the other says Toms@gmail.com.
Which one looks more professional to you? I’d go with the first one. In fact, so would most people. In a recent survey, 65% of consumers believe a company-branded email is more credible than a business using a free email account.
Here’s why you Need a Branded Email Address:
- Credibility
In this age of online scammers, a generic email address from Gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc., can cause suspicion. People will feel more comfortable with an email address that is linked to your business. A custom email address gives the impression you’re a legit business.
- You Look More Professional
An email address that is linked to your website makes you look like a real professional and not someone who is working part-time out of their basement.
- First Impressions Count
If email is your first contact with a customer, then you want to make a good impression. (Would you show up for a first date without looking your best? It’s the same thing!!) This is especially important if your competitors have a generic email address. With a branded email you win the first impression rose! (That’s for The Bachelor fans!)
- Promotes Brand Awareness
Every time your email shows up in your customer’s in-box, a branded email address reminds them of your company. It’s a small, but subtle way of promoting your business.
- It’s Easy To Do!
You can set up a branded email through your domain provider or web hosting company. They are typically free or very low cost. If you’re running Microsoft 365 you can set it up yourself through Office 365 Admin Center.
